How to Make a Papercraft Temporal Bone
1. Cut the bold solid lines (do not forget opening two windows (X) and making two slits (O)). Make valley / mountain folds before assembling each part, which facilitates the completion of the model.
- Bold dotted lines: valley folds
- Bold chain lines: mountain folds
- Thin broken lines are indicator lines to attach the parts or represent anatomical structures. Do not cut or fold them.
2. Fold bold dotted / chain lines and glue (1) and (2) to complete the part "A".
3. Attach the part "A" to the part "B" by gluing (3)~ (5).
4. Glue the part “C” to the
assembled parts "A" and "B". The foot plate of the stapes is attached to the
oval window (6), and the tendon of the tensor tympani muscle is glued to the
back of the head of the malleus (7).
6. Attach the part "D" to the assembled parts "A", "B",
and "C" by gluing (10) ~ (13).
7. Close the part "B" by gluing (14) ~ (18). Now, the
paper craft is successfully assembled.
8. Canal wall up mastoidectomy is simulated by opening part "B".
8. Canal wall up mastoidectomy is simulated by opening part "B".
9.
Transcanal atticotomy is conducted
by cutting the scutum.
10.
Posterior tympanotomy is done
by cutting the triangular part between the vertical portion of the facial nerve
and the chorda tympani. Now you can see the round window niche.
11.
Canal wall down mastoidectomy
is completed by cutting the posterior wall of the external auditory canal.
